The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. TheOpportunity
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Mine Engineer at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2 or 7x7, day shift schedule depending on business needs.
Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

PositionReporting to the senior mine engineers, the Mine Engineer supports the safe and efficient operation of Copper Mountain Mine through technical analysis, planning, and engineering support. This role is intended for engineers with relevant mining experience who have obtained, or are in the process of obtaining, their Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and are capable of independently delivering engineering work within their assigned area.
Depending on business needs and individual experience, the Mine Engineer may be assigned to one or more of the following functional roles:
- Drill & Blast:
Develop and optimize blast designs including timing, wall control, powder factor optimization, and fragmentation performance. - Short Range Planning:
Prepare and maintain weekly and monthly mine plans, dig limits, and near‑term sequencing to support production targets. - Long Range Planning:
Develop medium- and long‑term mine designs, phase development strategies, and production schedules aligned with business objectives. - Geotechnical Engineering:
Support slope design implementation, ground control monitoring, and geotechnical risk management. - Dispatch Engineering:
Support fleet management systems, analyze production data, report KPIs, and identify opportunities for productivity optimization. - Production Engineering:
Conduct operational performance analysis, support continuous improvement initiatives, and lead assigned mine engineering projects. - Mine Survey:
Coordinate with survey team to support surface mapping, volume reconciliation, and data integration for mine planning, production reporting and month end reconciliation.
- Ensure engineering work and mine plans comply with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Provide engineering support through mine design, planning, analysis, and field engagement.
- Develop and maintain mine designs, schedules, forecasts, and supporting technical documentation.
- Collaborate with technical and operational teams to support planning, decision‑making, and business objectives.
- Perform other duties as required to support the objectives of the Mine Engineering department.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining or Geotechnical Engineering
- Registered or eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC)
