Compensation

$75,000–83,000 per year*.

* Final agreed‑upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location. Successful candidates must pass a pre‑employment drug test and background check prior to beginning employment.

Position Overview

We are seeking an urban forestry professional with strong data, analytical, and writing skills to support urban forest planning and related environmental projects. The position may be remote or hybrid, with a preference for candidates located near Dudek offices or active project areas.

Field work is not a core component of this role but may occur on a limited basis depending on team needs. The selected candidate will work closely with Dudek’s Urban Forestry team to support data‑driven planning, analysis, and visualization efforts across a range of projects. This role is well suited for someone with a background in urban forestry, natural resource management, or a related field who has hands‑on experience working with spatial and environmental datasets, including the use of R and GIS tools for analysis and visualization, and can translate analytical results into clear written products.

The position offers an opportunity to contribute technical expertise to applied urban forest planning, including canopy assessments, inventories, and long‑term management analyses.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support the preparation of urban forest planning documents through a combination of technical analysis, data review, and coordination activities under the direction of senior staff.
  • Draft clear, well‑organized written sections for Urban Forest Management Plans and related documents, including methods, results, and data‑driven interpretations.
  • Manage, clean, analyze, and interpret spatial and tabular datasets using R and GIS tools to support project deliverables.
  • Conduct spatial and statistical analyses to support urban forest planning efforts, including canopy cover assessments, planting feasibility analyses, and evaluation of urban forest metrics using land cover data, LiDAR, and tree inventories.
  • Develop figures, tables, maps, and graphics that effectively communicate analytical findings for reports, presentations, and planning documents.
  • Maintain reproducible analysis workflows and technical documentation to support consistency and transparency across projects.
  • Synthesize urban forestry research, best management practices, and policy frameworks to inform planning recommendations.
  • Participate in internal coordination and occasional client meetings to discuss analysis approaches, findings, and deliverables.
  • Support the refinement of data analysis tools, systems, and internal documentation as project needs evolve.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in urban forestry, forestry, environmental science, natural resources, urban planning, geography, data science, or related discipline.
  • Proficiency in R required, including data cleaning, analysis, visualization, and working with geospatial data.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with, adapt, and improve existing analytical scripts in R under guidance from senior staff.
