Position Description

Modine Manufacturing Company is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) who will support the Trenton facility's quality needs across the supply base. This position reports directly to the Trenton, MO, Quality Manager and will work directly with suppliers to approve PPAP and APQP activities, perform audits and compliance checks, manage Non-Conformances and coordinate supplier PPM reduction and improvement activities. This position interfaces with employees at all levels of the company and works with the APQP system to manage any changes to keep the Modine QMS in compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implementation and use of supplier management activities and procedures to improve Supplier Performance.
  • Initiate effective and efficient changes and improvements to the Modine Supplier Quality System and Modine Global Supplier Quality Manual.
  • Maintain and improve the supplier rating system; participating in activities to eliminate poor-performing suppliers as necessary.
  • Conduct on-site supplier quality assessments to ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or VDA requirements.
  • Lead the 8D system for any supplier issues, non-conformances and audit findings, designating assignments and tracking due dates as required.
  • Develop training (internal and external) of the requirements of the Modine Supplier Quality System, and conduct training to company personnel as needed.
  • Be knowledgeable of customer requirements and provide support to product groups and manufacturing plants for customer supplier quality-related activities.
  • Participate in Advanced Product Quality Planning APQP activities. Communicate special characteristics and capability expectations to suppliers early in the product development process to ensure the supplier's ability to provide conforming product.
  • Lead inspection and sorting teams both internal and external as needed in response to QMod and/or other Quality issues.
Required Education & Qualifications
  • Required college graduate in Engineering or related technical discipline with 2-7 years of SQE or Engineering experience.
  • Proficient in knowledge of AIAG Core Tools and ISO 9001 / IATF 16949.

  • Experience in developing and implementing Supplier Quality Systems.
  • Ability to lead others.
    • Works with supplier to resolve nonconformances and problems using problem solving skills.
    • Openly communicate improvements, needs, and current state of NC's to the plant.
  • Working knowledge of disciplined problem solving methodologies such as 8D's, 5 Why's, Fishbone, and Flow Diagrams.
  • 1st and 2nd Party Auditor Certificate.
    • Conduct supplier QMS assessments and process audits.
  • Takes initiative to evaluate new methods to improve efficiency.
  • Anticipates future needs and initiates internal preparation accordingly.
  • Uses initiative in project approaches and practical experience gained from past assignments to solve problems.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to Application Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering, and the Manufacturing Plant on resolution of supplier quality issues.
  • Accountable for coordinating multiple projects concurrently, working both with the plant and the corporate levels.
  • In-depth understanding of all applicable products, processes, and applications is required.
  • Aware of industry trends and plays a key role in future planning.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer and/or ASQ Certified Quality Auditor a plus.
