Blade Engineer
Automated Red-Meat Processing Equipment | U.S. (Midwest Preferred) | 30–40% Travel

TRC is seeking a Blade Engineer to lead the design, optimization, and performance of cutting systems used in automated beef and pork processing. This role blends mechanical engineering, materials science, and production optimization to maximize yield, safety, and uptime in high-speed food manufacturing environments.

You’ll collaborate with global automation teams and U.S. processing facilities to enhance blade performance, extend tool life, and improve plant efficiency.
What You’ll Do
Cutting System Engineering
Design and validate blades and deboning tools for automated meat processing lines
Improve yield, precision, and edge life through wear analysis and performance testing
Lead root-cause investigations on blade failure, vibration, and durability issues
Support equipment launches, FATs, and SATs
Automation Integration
Integrate blade systems with robotics, conveyors, and vision inspection
Define blade parameters for servo-driven motion systems
Support CAD modeling and cutting force simulations
Reliability & Performance
Develop predictive maintenance programs for tooling wear
Track KPIs: downtime, tool life, cost-per-ton, yield performance
Optimize changeovers and reduce unplanned downtime
Quality & Compliance
Ensure compliance with USDA, FSIS, and OSHA standards
Support hygienic design and sanitation requirements
Conduct safety and risk assessments related to blade handling
Product & Market Support
Contribute to product roadmap and competitive positioning
Maintain installed base data and evaluate market opportunities
Support sharpening program development and performance metrics
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Food Process Engineering (Master’s preferred)
5+ years in red-meat processing, industrial equipment, or tooling systems
Expertise in blade materials, coatings, and wear mechanisms

Experience with automation/robotics in production environments
Proficiency in 3D CAD (Solid Works, Inventor, or similar)
Strong knowledge of SPC, OEE, and root-cause methodologies
Familiarity with food safety and regulatory standards
Success Metrics
Yield improvement per carcass/cut
Reduced blade changeover frequency and downtime
Improved blade cost-per-ton processed
Strong safety and audit performance
