A leading global organisation in the speciality chemicals and manufacturing sector is seeking a Process Safety Engineer to strengthen and develop its process safety management programmes. This role suits someone with a solid grounding in process safety, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance, ideally gained within a chemical or manufacturing environment.
About the Role
The Process Safety Engineer will support the delivery of robust process safety systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, identifying risks, and driving continuous improvement across operations. The position involves close collaboration with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to embed safety into day-to-day practice and project design.
Responsibilities:
Process Safety Management & Compliance
- Lead and improve PSM programmes in line with OSHA 29 CFR and other relevant regulations.
- Conduct PHAs, HAZOPs, and LOPA studies.
- Maintain Process Safety Information (PSI), SOPs, and safety documentation.
Risk Assessment & Incident Review
- Carry out qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, including modelling for dispersion, consequences, fires, and explosions.
- Support or lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis and development of corrective and preventive actions.
- Implement improvements based on incident learnings and best practice.
Training & Collaboration
- Deliver process safety training for engineering, operations, and maintenance teams.
- Work with key stakeholders to ensure safety is integrated into design, modifications, and operational activities.
- Support capital projects by reviewing process safety requirements.
Auditing & Improvement
- Conduct internal audits to assess PSM effectiveness.
- Recommend and implement safety improvements.
- Keep up to date with industry standards, regulatory changes, and new technologies.
Qualifications
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Safety, or related discipline (Master’s beneficial).
- 0–5 years’ experience in process safety within chemicals, manufacturing, or related sectors.
- Knowledge of PSM, RMP, HAZOP, LOPA, and associated methodologies.
- Experience with process modelling tools (e.g., PHAST, ALOHA) is advantageous.
