Heaviside Industries delivers advanced technological capabilities for the U.S. and allied defense industry. Heaviside’s team brings deep experience engineering and manufacturing defense products, putting advanced tech on the battlefield and into the hands of warfighters. Heaviside gives warfighters multi-domain capabilities with a product portfolio that spans land, air, sea, and space.

These capabilities are critical to protecting our freedom and require urgency. While much of the defense industry is mired in decades-long development cycles, the Heaviside team is architected to deliver world-class, battle-tested products to our customers at speed and scale.

We are looking for builders who want to create step changes in technology for those who protect us all.

If you are a visionary who wants to solve complex problems, save lives, and see your work make a difference in the world, join us at the Heaviside.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Principal RF Engineer will architect Heaviside’s suite of RF products from design through delivery. In this position, you aren't just designing components; you are designing the systems that allow our warfighters to understand and dominate the electromagnetic spectrum. As a Principal RF Engineer, you will lead the development of advanced RF products from initial concept to a battlefield-ready product, with involvement every step of the process.

In this role, you will work on products spanning land, air, sea, and space, giving our warfighters multi-domain operational advantages.

The right person for this role thrives in a fast-paced environment and must possess a relentless attitude. You are an engineer who isn't afraid to pick up a soldering iron to prove out a prototype or spend 70% of your time in the field validating your hardware. You will own the entire RF value chain — bridging the gap between complex R&D and battle-ready products that save warfighter lives and protect our national security.

This is an onsite position in Marina Del Rey, California.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Design complex RF circuits for passive and active devices
  • Work with electrical engineering to prototype new RF product PCBs
  • Platform integration
  • Benchtop bring-up with RF and EMI/EMC test equipment
  • Field testing and results analysis
  • Create and execute verification and validation plans for complete product field testing
  • Plan new product and feature development plans and present them to stakeholders.
  • Assist with the transition from development to manufacturing
  • Work with customers to understand how to technically improve RF sub-system performance
  • Work with cross discipline engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, software)
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • Background in Electrical Engineering with a strong emphasis on electromagnetic, and/or RF theory or equivalent project work
  • Hands on experience designing, prototyping, bench-top bring-up and probe analysis of RF circuits
  • Deep experience working with debugging and RF analysis equipment
  • Demonstrable experience designing low size, weight and power RF circuit end products
  • Experience designing and bringing a new RF product from concept to market release as an individual contributor engineer
  • Must be an expert in multi-stage conversion chains including Local Oscillators (LO) synthesis and mixer optimization
  • Demonstrable experience designing RF products with Low Noise Amplifiers (LNA) and doing multistage cascade analysis
  • Hands on experience working simulation tools such as ADS, and other common industry software
  • Ability to engage technically with firmware, DSP and other software engineers to optimize the front-end interface
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills to author technical proposals for customers
  • History of working with cross discipline engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, software).
  • [BONUS] Experience designing PCBs and PCB material sciences with Altium
  • [BONUS] Able to discuss in depth any at-home hardware projects current or past.
  • [BONUS] Proven ability to mentor more junior RF engineers.
