The Reader will be responsible for grading homework, quizzes, and exams as needed under the supervision of the instructor. The position requires up to a maximum of 18 hours per week.
The University of California Readers are represented by the UAW‑AFL‑CIO.
Refer to Table 18 for the salary range for this position.
Appointments for AY and/or Fall 2025 semester are reviewed around April, and for Spring 2026 semester around October. Applications will be reviewed continuously and this job posting will remain open until May 2026 to accommodate upcoming course needs and new applicants.
QualificationsBasic qualifications: The Reader must have successfully completed the course or a related course they are appointed to with a grade of "B" or higher and be in good standing at the University with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Readers are usually graduate students; up to date, qualified undergraduate students may be employed, especially when graduate students are not available.
Professional readers, not enrolled as students, may be employed on an hourly basis to meet special needs.

- Cover Letter – Identify the course(s) you are interested in being a Reader for.
- Unofficial Transcript – Confirm you have successfully completed and received a grade of "B" or higher in the course or related course you are requesting to be a Reader for and are in good standing at the University with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Access your UCM unofficial transcript via .
- Authorization of Information Release – As a condition of employment, the finalist must disclose any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years that determine they committed misconduct, left a position during an investigation for alleged misconduct, or filed an appeal with a previous employer. Misconduct includes any violation of policies or laws governing conduct at the applicant's previous place of employment, including but not limited to sexual harassment, sexual assault, discrimination, dishonesty, or unethical conduct.
