The Civil and Environmental Engineering department in the School of Engineering anticipates hiring multiple Readers for the following courses for Academic Year :

    Introduction to Civil and Environmental Engineering
  • CEE 100:
    Civil Engineering for Sustainable Systems
  • CEE 110:
    Engineering Hydrology
  • CEE 120:
    Strength and Sustainability of Materials
  • CEE 130:
    Meteorology and Air Pollution
  • CEE 165:
    Structural Analysis
  • CEE 176:
    Water and Wastewater Treatment
  • CEE 183:
    Field Methods in Subsurface Hydrology
  • CEE 193:
    Civil and Environmental Engineering Capstone Design
  • ENGR 057:
    Statics and Dynamics
  • ENGR 120:
    Fluid Mechanics
  • ENGR 155:
    Engineering Economic Analysis
  • Other courses as needed

The Reader will be responsible for grading homework, quizzes, and exams as needed under the supervision of the instructor. The position requires up to a maximum of 18 hours per week.

The University of California Readers are represented by the UAW‑AFL‑CIO.

Refer to Table 18 for the salary range for this position.

Appointments for AY  and/or Fall 2025 semester are reviewed around April, and for Spring 2026 semester around October. Applications will be reviewed continuously and this job posting will remain open until May 2026 to accommodate upcoming course needs and new applicants.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications: The Reader must have successfully completed the course or a related course they are appointed to with a grade of "B" or higher and be in good standing at the University with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Readers are usually graduate students; up to date, qualified undergraduate students may be employed, especially when graduate students are not available.

Professional readers, not enrolled as students, may be employed on an hourly basis to meet special needs.

  • Authorization of Information Release – As a condition of employment, the finalist must disclose any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years that determine they committed misconduct, left a position during an investigation for alleged misconduct, or filed an appeal with a previous employer. Misconduct includes any violation of policies or laws governing conduct at the applicant's previous place of employment, including but not limited to sexual harassment, sexual assault, discrimination, dishonesty, or unethical conduct.
