Position OverviewThe Lab Technician I supports the testing of refining catalysts and hydrocarbon feed stocks/products under the direction of senior team members, research engineers, chemists, or lab leaders. Work involves operating lab equipment, supporting bench scale testing units, and maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities- Execute laboratory tasks for refining catalyst and hydrocarbon product testing.
- Handle product collection, blending, storage, and inspection sample submissions for BSU or PTU testing units (may include hazardous chemicals).
- Operate analytical equipment to collect feed/product characterization data and generate summary reports while strictly following SOPs and QA/QC procedures.
- Support operation of complex Bench Scale Units running at elevated temperatures and pressures (≥500°F and ≥1000 psig), including monitoring and recording unit status.
- Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical and testing systems.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization with minimal guidance.
- Communicate effectively with team members and customers.
- Adhere strictly to Chevron Operational Excellence standards, lab safety requirements, and project deliverables.
- Document work processes and results clearly to protect Intellectual Property.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related scientific field.
- Hands‑on lab experience with safe chemical handling, analytical/testing instruments, and accurate experimental documentation.
- Basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong safety practices, especially with hazardous chemicals, high‑temperature, and high‑pressure systems.
- Experience operating test units at elevated temperature and pressure (≥500°F, ≥1000 psig).
- Mechanical aptitude for assembling simple piping or test components.
- Proficiency with MS Office; familiarity with instrumentation or process‑control software.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
- Consistent delivery of high‑quality work in both lab and office settings.
