The section is responsible for creating emission inventories that are spatially, temporally, and size‑resolved, conducting air quality modeling studies, and providing technical support grounded in sound science to support statewide regulatory and policy programs. The section collaborates with a broad range of internal and external scientists, engineers, and policymakers. It consists of engineers and scientists using state‑of‑the‑art computer models, systems, and software, including programming and scripting for application development.
The main duties of the section include:
1) developing high‑quality, gridded emission inventories for air quality modeling;
2) working with other sections and air quality districts to create emission targets for State Implementation Plans; and
3) creating metrics and procedures to assess emission inventories and input parameters for meteorological and air quality models.
For this position, we are looking for someone with expertise in environmental engineering and chemistry, along with engineering knowledge of emission source testing and associated laboratory analysis procedures. The selected candidate will develop and coordinate the creation of new particle size and chemical species profiles from fundamental source testing and survey data. The role also involves utilizing, writing, and updating protocols, procedures, and software related to applying this data to develop emission inputs for air quality models.
More specific duties can be found in the duty statement.
