Safety Health & Environmental Specialist

Shimmick is seeking a talented Safety, Health & Environmental Specialist to oversee occupational health and safety programs, analyze trends, and ensure compliance with regulations to safeguard a large project or all projects in the region. The role provides technical expertise, conducts safety orientations and reviews safety procedures. Collaborate with industry experts and committed teams to promote a safe working environment. Shimmick is a national contractor with an excellent industry reputation and a Northwest Division presence.

Projects include water and wastewater treatment facilities and the Gerald Desmond Bridge in Long Beach, CA, among others in water treatment, water conveyance, water storage, flood protection and environmental initiatives. • Under general supervision, perform technical work in environmental, health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with SH&E standards and state and federal regulatory requirements.
• Apply relevant degree and/or experience to advise on SH&E topics.
• Assist in development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems and procedures.
• Monitor for hazards present in the work area.
• Investigate accidents, injuries and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace.
• Recommend process, design, procedures and equipment improvements to minimize hazards.
• Participate in employee training, emergency preparedness and program quality assurance.

• Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Health or Industrial Hygiene or Environmental Engineering.

• Preferred Requirements: OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Training;
  Current First Aid/CPR Certification; strong interpersonal skills; experience with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with safety management software.

The salary range for this position is between $75,000 - $105,000 per year depending on experience, education and geographic location.
