Description
The City of Wentzville is seeking a Civil Engineer to help maintain and improve city infrastructure. This position is responsible for engineering design, field investigations, plan reviews, contract administration, and project management. The ideal candidate will have specialized knowledge of engineering tools, methods, and techniques and will work under moderate supervision to support the city’s infrastructure needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review subdivision and commercial development plans to ensure compliance with city standards.
- Design, review, and manage infrastructure projects, including water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation, and parks.
- Identify infrastructure maintenance needs and develop solutions for long‑term improvements.
- Oversee design contracts and manage capital projects/vue public works initiatives.
- Evaluate and process permit applications for utility installations in city rights‑of‑way.
- Provide technical engineering expertise and problem‑solving support for city infrastructure concerns.
- Address resident concerns by assessing infrastructure, recommending solutions, and coordinating with relevant departments.
- Monitor projects for safety concerns and suggest process improvements as needed.

QualificationsJob Qualifications
Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or a related field required.
- Valid drivers license required.
- Professional Engineer license within 3 years of employment required.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in Civil Engineering, Public Works, Construction, or a similar work environment desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
May be representative, but not all‑inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.
- Thorough understanding of public infrastructure for both construction and maintenance including streets, storm sewers, sanitary sewer, and water distribution.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of public works operations.
- Proficiency in use of basic business software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations) AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Arc GIS software and basic knowledge of office equipment and machines.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi‑task efficiently.
- Attention to detail and the ability to maintain focused concentration.
- Ability to plan and organize work, analyze and solve problems, and prepare and support comprehensive reporting.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Regular attendance is a necessary and essential job duty.
Salary/Compensation: $84,171 - $98,600 per year
