As an engineer on the Vode team, you will be responsible for defining and designing the products that are changing the face of the lighting industry. At Vode, minimalist design isn’t a slavish devotion to cool, it is a direct and highly engineered response to the architectural marketplace. We’ve been asked for low-profile, high-performance, energy-efficient, scalable, durable luminaires... And that’s what we make.
Your work will involve collaboration with industrial designers, mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers and other key stakeholders as you design a world class lighting product. You will be expected to lead the design, development and validation in the creation of various lighting product designs and technologies. You will use your experience designing for high volume manufacturing processes and automated assembly to deliver the lowest cost of energy to our customers.
Responsibilities
- Innovate and create
- Brainstorming design concepts and executing design concepts in all phases of a development cycle
- Work with all stakeholders to deliver a world class design
- Communicating cross-functionally on design directions and requirements
- Concept generation, rapid prototyping and testing to evaluate new design directions
- High volume part and assembly design from concept to detail design to manufacturing introduction
- Detailed mechanical design for a wide range of production fabrication processes in order to optimize performance and cost
- Generating dimensional and tolerance analysis
- Developing design and process with external vendors; acting as PD technical liaison among vendors
- Material, process, and vendor selection
- Create, manage, release, and maintain BOM’s
- Validation of components in bench and system configuration
- Work with engineers from other groups to integrate components and electromechanical systems
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineers and suppliers to transition concepts to production
- Managing and tracking multiple priorities within schedule requirements and ability to drive multiple vendors towards common project goals
- Conducting design reviews and driving file release process
As a Senior Mechanical Designer, you have demonstrated successful experience through several product development cycles of bringing product from a blank sheet to production. You have experience delivering complex parts and assemblies on time and in specification. You have designed for a number of high volume manufacturing processes, and you have experience pushing the limits of manufacturing processes to get the results you need at the right price point.
- Proficiency specifying GD&T and working with vendors to deliver parts that work
- Ability to design for a wide range of high volume fabrication and manufacturing processes. Expert working knowledge of design using injection molded plastics, castings, machining, aluminum extrusions and sheet metal parts that meet functional requirements and are suited for mass production.
- Proficiency in CAD modeling, Solidworks experience highly valued. Experience with advanced modeling techniques is a plus.
- Work with minimal supervision and create production documentation including product requirement documents, engineering drawings, and bills of materials (BOM).
