The Environmental Planner I will support environmental reviews and analyses in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). This role involves assisting with the evaluation of potential environmental impacts for a variety of projects, supporting environmental documentation, and coordinating with project teams to help ensure compliance with applicable regulations. The position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental planning while contributing to sustainable development efforts.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
Environmental Review and Analysis
- Assists in the preparation of environmental documents for compliance with CEQA and NEPA regulations, including initial studies, environmental impact reports (EIRs), environmental impact statements (EISs), mitigated negative declarations (MNDs), addenda, and categorical exemptions/exclusions.
- May research and analyze environmental data relevant to air quality, water resources, land use, noise, biological resources, cultural resources, and other environmental factors that impact project sites.
Regulatory Compliance
- Supports project teams to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations, including but not limited to CEQA, NEPA, Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act.
Public Outreach and Communication
- Assists in the preparation of public notices and communication materials related to environmental reviews. Attend and contribute to public meetings and hearings as necessary.
Report Preparation
- Contributes to the development of environmental document sections, studies and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations related to the environmental impact of projects.
Collaboration
- Works closely with senior planners, engineers, biologists, and other technical staff to incorporate environmental considerations into project planning, design, and construction.
Project Management Support
- Assists in managing project timelines and deliverables, ensuring that all environmental review processes are completed efficiently and in accordance with applicable regulations.
- 1+ years’ experience in environmental analysis, research, writing and/or related fieldwork. Proficiency in GIS tools and mapping for environmental constraints analysis. Ability to manage multiple tasks under deadlines.
- Some experience at an environmental consulting firm, with exposure to environmental planning or related work.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Ecology, Natural Resources Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Planning, or related field.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by the first day of employment.
- Master’s degree in Environmental Studies, Urban Studies, Geography, Environmental Planning, or related field.
