Primoris Services Corporation is seeking an Environmental Field Engineer to support the Site Manager and collaborate closely with the Area Environmental Coordinator to ensure environmental compliance of the construction site in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Position SummaryThe Field Engineer (Environmental) will oversee and manage all environmental-related aspects of the project during the construction phase of solar projects, ensuring adherence to critical environmental protocols such as SWPPP, SPCC, Threatened and Endangered Species awareness, Air Quality Permitting, waste management, and sustainability initiatives.
PrimaryJob Responsibilities
- Manage the project’s environmental management system (EMS) to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Compile and track all required information as outlined in the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) Compliance Matrix.
- Ensure continuous compliance with the SWPPP by overseeing maintenance, inspection, reporting, and mapping of all BMPs on site.
- Conduct regular environmental compliance inspections, produce weekly reports, identify non‑compliance, and recommend corrective actions.
- Document and report on environmental compliance activities, including required regulatory reports to local, state, and federal agencies.
- Monitor and ensure adherence to SPCC protocols; investigate and report spills, accidents, or non‑compliance events.
- Participate in or lead environmental training sessions for staff and subcontractors as required.
- Assist the Area Environmental Coordinator and Site Manager with additional environmental tasks as needed.
- Obtain certification as a California Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) within 60 days of employment.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science/engineering or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 2‑3 years of progressive environmental compliance experience, with at least 1 year of SWPPP and SPCC experience in California.
- Prior experience with stormwater management and training (e.g., California QSP, CISEC, CESSWI).
- HAZWOPER 40‑hour or ability to obtain.
- Licensed Drone Pilot preferred but not required.
- Valid driver’s license and clean motor vehicle record (MVR).
- Willingness to relocate to the project site for the duration of each construction project assigned.
- Interpersonal skills – ability to present information to small groups of employees or subcontractors.
- Effective oral, written, listening, and presentation communication skills.
- Computer literacy:
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio). - Organization and scheduling, planning and prioritization.
- Basic construction terminology, craft, and document knowledge.
- Basic understanding of California stormwater regulations.
- Ability to follow safety rules without cutting corners and comprehend safety intent.
