Help drive California’s clean energy goals. The California Energy Commission (CEC) is seeking a Electric Generation System Specialist I to support and advance the state’s Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS)—one of California’s cornerstone programs for renewable energy deployment and compliance.
Under the direction of the Program and Project Supervisor within the RPS Verification and Compliance Unit
, this position performs and leads complex analytical, policy, and consultative work related to renewable energy eligibility verification and compliance determination for California’s load‑serving entities.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring accountability, transparency, and successful implementation of California’s renewable energy goals.
In this role, you will:- âš¡ Perform and lead complex analyses related to RPS verification, compliance, and renewable energy procurement requirements.
- âš¡ Provide decision-makers and the public with timely, objective analysis of RPS compliance, electricity systems, markets, and emerging issues.
- âš¡ Lead stakeholder engagement and outreach with publicly owned utilities, state and federal agencies, local governments, Tribal Nations, environmental organizations, and other key partners.
- âš¡ Participate in interagency work groups and support coordination across Energy Commission programs involved in electric system planning and development.
- âš¡ Review and evaluate compliance filings, technical documentation, and program materials related to renewable energy projects and RPS achievement.
- âš¡ Plan and facilitate public workshops and meetings related to RPS implementation and compliance outcomes.
- âš¡ Serve as a project lead over technical and analytical staff as needed.
- 🔹 Experience in energy policy, renewable energy programs, electricity markets, or regulatory compliance.
- 🔹 Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex programmatic and technical information.
- 🔹 Experience working with diverse stakeholders and navigating high‑visibility public policy initiatives.
- 🔹 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- 🔹 Familiarity with California’s clean energy framework or public‑sector programs is highly desirable.
