Overview

Chaminade College Preparatory seeks a dynamic, innovative, and engaging ART TEACHER who has expertise in Traditional Art, Digital Art and Photography, with great classroom management skills for our high school campus (grades 9-12) in West Hills, California. This is a full-time position teaching four classes.

Responsibilities
  • Teaches four high school art classes.
  • Teach High School students a rigorous art curriculum that empowers them to shape their world artistically, communicate effectively, and become culturally and socially engaged citizens.
  • Create a learning environment that allows students to flourish artistically, build knowledge of key principles, develop students  fundamental art skills, including but not limited to drawing, coloring, and painting technique, as well as fundamentals of digital design and introduction to photography.
  • Provide consistent high-quality feedback to students that is consistent with articulated course standards while also creating a safe and supportive classroom environment that fosters learning and creativity.
  • Apply the principles of backward design and implement lessons that enable all students to succeed and reach their full potential.
  • Stay up-to-date with new art techniques, technologies, and trends to enhance teaching methods and student learning.
  • Collaborate with department members and course counterpart to design and teach a curriculum that builds students  toolkits of foundational principles and elements so that students can do the following:
    1) create powerful work that is relevant to their identities and lived experiences,
    2) appreciate art and artists, and
    3) speak and think like artists able to critique their own and others  work.
  • Exposes students to a diverse range of art and artists that respect students  diverse social identities while aligning with Catholic Marianist values and the school s mission.
  • Teach a standards-based (California state and Archdiocesan) curriculum under the supervision of the vice principals; plan lessons in a timely manner; provide feedback and grades on assignments; maintain grades, attendance, and other school records; and communicate with students, families, and counselors when students need support.
  • Collaborate with department members to evaluate, monitor, and update curriculum, assessment, and pacing guides under the guidance of the Department Chair.
  • Ensure instructional strategies respect students  diverse social identities while aligning with Catholic Marianist values and the school s mission.
  • Create an emotionally and physically safe learning environment where students can see themselves as artists and feel safe to express who they are.
  • Integrate technology by using Black Board Learning Management System (LMS) (training available), EdTech Apps, including Nearpod, Formative, AP Classroom, discipline-based learning technology tools, and other collaborative and productivity tools (note: all students use a school-issued tablet daily).
  • Be knowledgeable about new trends and developments in arts-based instructional strategies and assessment.
  • Participate in and attend campus life events, including supervision, lunch activities, liturgies, and assemblies.
Qualifications
  • Passion for teaching art at the secondary level and skilled at working with high-school aged students.
  • A minimum of a bachelor s degree in the subject discipline is required. A teaching credential and/or a Master s degree in the subject discipline is preferred.
  • Proficient in teaching applications in the Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience, especially in a Catholic educational setting, is preferred; however, relevant experience in the field is also strongly considered.
  • Comfortable delivering instruction on campus, via remote learning, and/or in a hybrid model.
