The Middle School Family and Consumer Science Teacher creates a supportive, engaging, and positive learning environment where students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to meet and exceed the State Core Curriculum Content Standards. This educator uses approved curriculum, instructional materials, and school directives to guide students in building practical life skills, fostering personal responsibility, and preparing for success in school and beyond.

Certified staff of Oak Grove R- VI School District can participate in Career Ladder. Staff with two years of experience teaching in a Missouri Public School may earn $1,500 - $5,000 for approved work outside of the school day.

• Teaches Family & Consumer Science content and skills using the curriculum designated by the Oak Grove R-VI School District.
• Instructs students in citizenship and foundational subject matter as required by state law and district policies.
• Adapts Family & Consumer Science materials, instructional strategies, and resources to create relevant, sequential lessons that challenge and engage students.
• Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials aligned with the district's instructional philosophy and course standards; provides individualized and small-group instruction to meet the diverse needs of students and student subgroups.
• Evaluates students' academic and social growth; prepares report cards and maintains accurate records, including attendance, checklists, census forms, and other required documentation.
• Encourages students to think independently, solve problems, and express original ideas.
• Assesses each student's progress toward mastery of Family & Consumer Science standards and skills.
• Establishes and maintains expectations for student behavior to ensure an orderly, productive classroom environment.
• Communicates regularly with parents, guardians, and school counselors regarding student progress and concerns.
• Supervises students during assigned duties and out-of-classroom activities throughout the school day.
• Participates in faculty committees, professional learning opportunities, and the sponsorship of student activities.
• Administers assessments in accordance with district and state testing procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or administrative staff that align with the general responsibilities and qualifications of the position.

• Demonstrates preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
• Encourages parent and community involvement, obtains information for parents when requested, promptly returns phone calls and answers emails.
• Participates in appropriate professional activities.
• Participates in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs, and student organizations as directed.

• Knowledge of middle school curriculum, instructional practices, and concepts across all subject areas taught.
• Knowledge of data systems, data analysis, and the development of instructional action plans based on student performance.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws related to education, student rights, and school operations.
• Ability to effectively use computer networks, instructional technology, and software applications as required.

• Bachelor's degree in Family & Consumer Sciences Education.
• Master's degree preferred, however is not required.
• Must hold, be eligible for, and maintain a Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate in the appropriate area of assignment.

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift, move, and/or support up to ten pounds or more at times.
