Director of Instructional Services
Purpose Statement
The job of the Director of Instructional Services is done for the purpose(s) of directing the development and refinement of the district's prek-12 program of curriculum and instruction. The director will work in conjunction with the superintendent and other administrators to ensure a comprehensive continuum of services that ensures success for all students. A major responsibility of the director is to administer (plan, organize, coordinate, and evaluate) the district's curriculum and instruction program to achieve the highest quality and efficiency consistent with the district's resources and goals.
The director will also provide leadership and vision in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and alignment to assessments.

Essential Functions
- Coordinates curriculum and instructional programs among schools and within courses of study.
- Encourages innovative programs that may improve instruction.
- Communicates to the superintendent the requirements and needs of the district related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Coordinates, supervises, and evaluates the selection and use of textbooks and other instructional materials.
- Collaborates with building principals to provide instructional leadership within each of the buildings.
- Demonstrates commitment to the education of children by supporting the organizational vision, mission, guiding principles, and strategic direction.
- Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates the prek-12 instructional program and ensures the program's compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines as well as current research and best practice.
- Fosters instructional program and services improvement through instructional support, curriculum development, and technology integration.
- Coordinates the development and monitors the implementation of all course content, skill, knowledge and performance areas, scope and sequence, and articulation of the curriculum in the district prek-12.
- Assumes responsibility for the documentation and dissemination of all curricula and for a board approval process for all new and revised/updated curricula.
- Guides and collaborates with the staff in the selection of instructional materials and resources, their modification, revision, deletion, organizational pattern and use, including a process for their systematic replacement and updating.
- Leads and collaborates with the staff in the identification, development of, training in and implementation of instructional methods appropriate to the respective curricula they support.
- Collaborates with staff and parents to oversee and lead the development and implementation of a program of instruction which will meet both the group and individual needs of gifted students.
- Collaborates with staff and parents to oversee and lead the development and implementation of a program of instruction which will meet both the group and individual needs of students identified as English Language Learners (ELL).
- Supports the development of technology-driven instructional applications.
- Engages in professional growth activities to enhance job performance and/or meet changing job requirements.
- Supervises, monitors, and directs assigned staff in the department.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using a variety of software applications; planning and managing projects; communicating effectively with students, administrators, coordinators, instructors, coaches, and members of the community;
preparing and maintaining accurate records; analyzing budgets; analyzing data; applying assessment instruments; classifying data and/or information; comparing results; conducting interviews; conducting meetings; counseling and mentoring employees; critical observation; estimating required resources; and facilitating meetings.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; personnel processes; curriculum discipline;
