The DepartmentThe Department of Mathematics & Data Science at Cal Poly Humboldt is a lively, student-centered, and supportive program distinguished by excellence in teaching, innovative curriculum development, and meaningful faculty-student engagement. We are committed to fostering future scholars and professionals while emphasizing strong analytical foundations and applied problem-solving across mathematics, statistics, and data science.
We offer two undergraduate degree programs: a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science in Data Science. The department also offers a Minor in Mathematics, a Minor in Applied Statistics, and three certificates in Data Science.
At Cal Poly Humboldt, our curriculum is rigorous yet flexible, with a focus on hands‑on and applied learning. We help students develop strong analytical and quantitative reasoning skills, sharpen their ability to think logically and abstractly, and recognize patterns and structures in complex systems. Graduates leave our programs with marketable skills in communication, computation, data analysis, problem‑solving, and organization that prepare them for careers, graduate study, and professional advancement.
The successful candidate may teach a broad range of courses in mathematics, statistics, and data science, ranging from lower‑division foundational courses such as College Algebra, Trigonometry, Finite Mathematics, and Calculus, to upper‑division and advanced applied courses in areas such as Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Differential Equations, Statistics, and Data Science.
We seek applicants who are prepared to contribute to instruction across a wide spectrum of courses spanning introductory quantitative literacy through advanced applied and computational topics.
QualificationsM.A. or M.S. in a mathematics, statistics, data science, or a closely related mathematical science field, with successful teaching experience or recent professional practice is required. For statistics or data science courses, a M.A. or M.S. in a field with strong statistical application will be considered. A Ph.D.; and successful teaching experience within the last 5 years is preferred.

Salary: Dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary schedule information for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges. Appointees are typically placed at the beginning of the range. The full‑time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
