Department of Physics & Astronomy Temporary Faculty Pool

The Department

The Department of Physics & Astronomy acknowledges that science is intrinsically dependent on human creativity. The Department of Physics & Astronomy offers a rigorous Bachelor of Science program with concentrations in both Physics and Astronomy, as well as general education and service courses. As a department we seek faculty who are passionate about teaching Physics and/or Astronomy to a diverse student population.

Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Waves & Optics, Electricity & Magnetism;
Descriptive Astronomy;
Life in the Universe;
Physics of Stars and Planets;

Qualifications

Generally, M.A./M.S. in Physics, Astronomy or related field is required. For some areas, B.A./B.S. with successful teaching experience in the field may be considered. Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy or related, as well as training and teaching experience relevant to the course or area of specialization is preferred.

For these areas, other qualifications apply:

Electronics & Electronic Instrumentation Lecture/Lab, and Electronic Instrumentation & Control Systems Lecture/Lab

M.A./M.S. with expertise in electronics is required. Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy or related field, training and successful teaching experience relevant to the course or area of specialization is preferred.

Upper-division Physics Courses

Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy or related field with appropriate Physics background is required. Preference will be given to candidates with successful teaching experience and/or training relevant to the course or area of specialization.

Salary:Dependent on qualifications and experience.

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

Appointees are typically placed at the beginning of the range. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
