General StatementThe Center for Student Involvement (CSI) empowers Golden Eagles to engage in transformative opportunities, build community, and create positive change. The Student Engagement Assistant will support the planning, execution, and evaluation of CSI programs and events under the supervision of the full-time CSI coordinators. The Student Engagement Assistant also provides support for student organization management and development of leadership programs and interacts with members of the university community to promote and enhance the experience for students in the community.
GeneralDuties and Responsibilities
- Assists with the development and implementation of student engagement programming centered around enrichment, wellness, leadership, and student organization management;
- Researches and solicits prospective speakers/lecturers, programs, events, policies, and initiatives to help further promote the mission of CSU and the University-Student Union (U-SU);
- Assists in identifying possible co-sponsors for events and activities including academic departments, U-SU departments, and student organizations;
- Develops marketing and promotional campaigns to foster an increase in program attendance and outreach;
- Conducts ongoing research assessing campus needs regarding programming interests and needs;
- Attends and participates in CSI Staff meetings and scheduled meetings with supervisors;
- Attend all scheduled U-SU training sessions;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Currently enrolled Cal State LA student with a minimum of 6 undergraduate units and a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0, or graduate student with at least 4 graduate units and a minimum Cal State LA cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0;
- Willingness to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student body and staff;
- Willingness to work with student organizations, including fraternities and sororities;
- Strong interpersonal and group communication skills in a team environment;
- Knowledgeable and understanding of social media platforms;
- Strong organizational skills: the ability to prioritize, complete assigned duties, and perform varied tasks;
- Adaptability and an understanding that schedule adjustments may be needed depending on events and department needs;
- Ability to interact positively and build effective working relationships;
- Must be self-motivated, able to adjust to changing workloads, and have some independent judgment;
- Willingness to provide effective customer service promptly and courteously;
- Proficient oral, written, and listening skills;
- Ability to respond to walk-ins and other inquiries;
- Experience using various desktop (Microsoft Office) and web-based applications, and office equipment;
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
