POSITION
There is currently one (1) part-time Library Assistant-Bilingual (Spanish) position available, including benefits. Tentative hours are 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, six hours a day, five days a week, ten months a year. Eligibility lists for the Library Assistant and Library Assistant-Bilingual (Spanish) positions are being established to fill current vacancies, hire substitutes and to fill future vacancies for the next six (6) months.

The hourly salary for the job classifications are as follows:
- Library Assistant - $21.24 - $25.90
- Library Assistant - Bilingual (Spanish) - $21.78 - $26.54 Hourly

SUMMARY OF DUTIESProvides assistance to students and teachers in locating materials and using library resources; handles circulation (e.g., checking books in/out, receiving/shelving); operates a computer to maintain circulation/inventory records; works in a resource center providing assistance to teachers in locating instructional materials.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSPositions are assigned to an elementary library or resource center or to an intermediate or high school library. Incumbents at the elementary, intermediate and continuation high school levels manage the day-to-day library operation which varies from structured (i.e., regular classroom visits) to open. Incumbents normally work under minimal supervision from the school principal or from the Librarian at the high schools.
The Library Assistant class is distinguished from secretarial/clerical classes in that incumbents perform duties requiring the development of specialized knowledge of library systems (e.g., cataloging, circulation, index systems) and work directly with groups of students.
Graduation from high school or equivalency is required.
EXPERIENCEA minimum of six (6) months of clerical experience or experience working with school-age children is required.

LICENSE/LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTSA valid, Class C, California driver's license, a good driving record and use of a private automobile may be required, and if so, must be maintained during employment. The ability to speak and read Spanish is required for the Library Assistant-Bilingual (Spanish) class.
WORK ENVIRONMENTEmployees work primarily inside a school library or resource center environment, with constant interruptions, and have direct contact with students and the public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSEmployees stand, walk, sit, stoop/bend, lift and carry up to 25 lbs. or up to 50 lbs. with assistance, use fingers repetitively, wrists or hands repetitively in a twisting motion; use both hands simultaneously, speak clearly, hear normal conversation, and see small details.
OPEN/PROMOTIONAL WITH DUAL CERTIFICATION
The examination may consist of the following:
