Early Ed Teacher Assistant

Monday-Friday, 35 hours per week

Job Summary /

Purpose:

Assist the teacher in providing a quality early childhood education program.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum sixty (60) hours of college credit, with at least one course related to early childhood education.
  • A.A. in early childhood education, child development, or child care preferred.
  • Experience working with young children.
  • Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Substitute Certification.
Knowledge/

Skills:
  • Understanding of early childhood development.
  • Sensitivity to the feelings and needs of others.
  • Experience working with young children.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist the teacher in planning and working with preschool children, following her lead and approach.
  • Help develop a learning environment that emphasizes communication, thinking and problem-solving skills, social-emotional skills, and motor skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality concerning children and families.
  • Use a positive approach in managing behavior.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues and parents.
  • Deal with children fairly and impartially.
  • Use observational skills to learn about each child's needs and progress.
  • Organize classroom activities, maintain order, and keep materials clean and accessible.
  • Demonstrate professional appearance, ethics, and behavior as a positive role model.
  • Be punctual and consistent in attendance, dedicating sufficient time to perform duties thoroughly.
