Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor, the Lead Teacher organizes and coordinates care and development activities for infants, preschoolers, and school-aged children. The Lead Teacher provides direction to Early Education Teachers and Assistant Teachers and supervises student teaching assistants. This is the senior level of the Child Development Center Teacher titles.

Job Duties (80% – Child Development and Education)
  • Assumes responsibility for the general supervision and safety of all children in attendance, including compliance with Department of Social Services licensing requirements and Titles 5 and 22 regulations.
  • Completes the California Department of Education DRDP assessment twice a year and maintains a developmental portfolio for a designated group of children. Observes children to assess strengths and goals.
  • Documents and analyzes information from developmental assessments to plan curriculum and maintains ongoing professional communication with families. Ensures curriculum and environments meet CDE, CDSS, and NAEYC accreditation standards.
  • With oversight, design and maintain a developmentally appropriate environment for safe, independent exploration.
  • Establishes and maintains a safe, clean, functional, and organized classroom and outdoor yard.
  • Promotes development of self-control, self-esteem, self-help skills, and positive relationships through daily interactions.
  • Participates in program evaluation and planning of goals and effectiveness.
  • Oversees policies and procedures related to child care in the classroom; provides direction to Teachers and Teaching Assistants with the Site Supervisor.
