Overview

Southeast Middle School Wraparound Counselor (Comprehensive Grant Funded)

* This position is 100% funded by federal grants; as such, annual availability is based upon the needs of the school.*

Job Summary

The SEMS Wraparound Counselor is responsible for coordinating all wraparound partnerships, with the primary goal of maintaining the overall strategic coherence of the program, and working closely with all wraparound partners, students, and families to translate the support systems into lasting community-wide support networks. The counselor, who is based out of Southeast Middle School and reports to the head principal, is responsible for the following:

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Seek and secure new partnerships with community resources, based on school needs
  • Coordinate the actions of wraparound partners and facilitate dialogue between partners
  • Create a system for keeping wraparound partners informed
  • Oversee all program communications, internally among school district stakeholders, and externally with wraparound partners
  • Support program operations and serve as the main person responsible for creating schedules for thematic school programming
  • Lead the development of processes and procedures needed to best serve students and families
  • Build, develop and maintain a positive and collaborative relationship with students, families, school staff members, and wraparound partners
  • Provide families with information and lead weekly workshops related to the needs of their child and twice annual symposiums
  • Act as a resource to parents/guardians by providing family support activities and communicating available services
  • Manage data collection among wraparound partners, maintain a record of service and support the use of data for learning and evaluation of the efforts, including working with school district staff to create and produce regular reports related to the program
  • Coordinate with school administration and social emotional team to support targeted students and families, especially in relation to attendance
  • Support and collaborate with SEMS staff across various areas as needed in order to foster a sense of community and cohesion throughout the school
  • Draft, plan and implement Memorandums of Understanding with wraparound partners in coordination with the Director of Federal Programs and Chief Financial Officer
  • Use the National Wraparound Initiative’s “Ten Principles of Wraparound” and the “Phases and Activities of the Wraparound Process” to guide delivery of service
  • Provides all services utilizing a strengths-based, family-focused, and culturally competent approach
  • Perform similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates
Minimum Qualifications

License(s)/Certification(s)

Required:

  • Missouri Teaching Certificate, School Counseling certification, or Master’s degree in Social Work (LCSW preferred)
Experience
  • At least three years of successful experience working with historically underestimated students
  • Experience collaborating with community partners
  • Demonstrated knowledge of of strength-based family-driven services
Skills/Abilities
  • Possess an enthusiasm for meeting and engaging with people
  • Critical thinking skills needed to overcome challenges and leverage resources to creatively solve problems
  • Work independently to propose solutions to issues
  • Skills in engaging, motivating and working with diverse individuals and groups
  • Experience in facilitation, consensus building and conflict management
  • Computer literacy; knowledge of google docs, sheets and forms
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
