Essential Functions of Position

Teaching Responsibilities
  • Teach a full schedule of developmental and transfer‑level English as a Second Language courses as assigned;
  • Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed;
  • Collaborate with educational organizations and community groups to coordinate off‑site location courses;
  • Provide orientation and coordination for faculty assigned to off‑site locations including schools and community sites;
  • Participate in orientation and outreach events to assist with enrolling new ESL students;
  • Participate in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning;
  • Teach in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online, off‑campus, and large‑group classes as needed;
  • Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of faculty as required by Administrative Regulation 7122;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students; and
  • Master’s degree in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate and a Master’s in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech, or any foreign language; or
  • A valid California Community College Credential; or
  • The equivalent education and/or experience (equivalency required).
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
  • Recent experience working with racially and ethnically minoritized students and understanding of historical exclusion patterns;
  • Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Demonstrated communication and computer skills for high‑quality instruction;
  • Experience with community outreach and adult ESL populations;
  • Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
Conditions of Employment

178 duty days per year.

Salary and Benefits

Annual salary $71,054 – $106,970 based on education and experience. Annual doctoral stipend $2,419 available. Fringe benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance and CalSTRS pension.

Selection Procedure

Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and minimum qualifications. Selected candidates will be invited to interview, and final hiring decisions will be made by the College President and approved by the Board of Trustees.
