Position: High School - Art Teacher - Pattonville High School - 2026-2027
Location: Maryland Heights

Pattonville School District is seeking a passionate and dedicated Art Teacher to join our team. Position Summary

The Art Teacher, under the general supervision of the school principal(s), develops students' interest, abilities, talents, and skills for artistic expression and creativity in the visual arts. The position implements district-approved curriculum, designs and delivers engaging lessons, models artistic techniques, and documents student learning and progress. The Art Teacher maintains a safe and supportive learning environment and communicates effectively with students, parents/guardians, and administrators regarding student progress, expectations, and instructional goals.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Designs and delivers art curriculum aligned with district goals, objectives, and instructional standards.
  • Develops and implements lesson plans and instructional materials that result in high-quality learning experiences and effective use of instructional time.
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, crafts, three-dimensional art, and art history, in accordance with the Board of Education adopted course of study.
  • Provides instruction in art concepts, techniques, and artistic appreciation.
  • Demonstrates artistic techniques and proper use of tools, materials, and art-related equipment.
  • Organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, guided practice, and independent work.
  • Monitors and assesses student learning, artistic skill development, and creative expression, and adjusts instruction to meet individual student needs.
  • Evaluates student performance and growth in artistic knowledge and skills and provides appropriate feedback.
  • Plans, curates, and presents art displays and exhibitions to showcase student work for the school and community.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and timely records of student achievement, grading, and attendance in accordance with district procedures and policies.
  • Builds and maintains effective communication with students and parents/guardians to encourage family engagement and support student learning.
  • Implements and enforces school and district behavior expectations to promote a positive and respectful learning environment.
  • Selects, requisitions, and manages appropriate art materials, supplies, and equipment to support instructional goals.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development to remain current with best practices, instructional strategies, and developments in art education.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors or masters degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Missouri Art K-12 teaching certification.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and student success.
Additional Duties
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal(s).

Travel Requirements
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Additional FTE will be implemented for travel time between schools.
Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of elementary school reading curriculum and concepts.
  • Ability to use learning software applications as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and their parents/guardians.
  • Ability to engage in self‑evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

Salary

Commensurate with years of full‑time teaching experience. Service credit is awarded on a year‑by‑year basis, with a maximum of 20 years recognized. (Certified Teacher Salary Schedule 2026‑2027)
