Responsibilities- Determine qualifications and appropriate individual support programs for students with disabilities, providing direct personal, vocational, and academic counseling services.
- Meet with faculty and other academic staff as necessary to support individual educational programs of students.
- Provide liaison services between students with disabilities, faculty, staff, and appropriate campus and community support systems.
- Facilitate accommodations by making service referrals to students with physical, learning, and psychological disabilities.
- Determine and document educational limitations and appropriate accommodations for students in the DSP&S program.
- Assist students to clarify and identify educational goals, develop student educational plans and contracts, and select appropriate courses.
- Conduct student follow‑up, monitor student progress and academic standing, and monitor accommodations and student needs.
- Assist students with disabilities to transition to and be successful in the college environment.
- Maximize student success by collaborating with other student services and instructional faculty.
- Develop and maintain competency regarding knowledge of College programs, services, policies and procedures.
- Utilize and keep abreast of advanced counseling methods, including the use of technology.
- Organize and offer various support groups, instruction and programs for students with disabilities.
- Interpret diagnostic test results to students, counselors, and parents if applicable.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
- Participate in participatory governance committees, processes, and initiatives such as Guided Pathways.
- Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed.
- Participate in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning.
- Assignments in a variety of settings and times, including evening or weekends, online or off‑campus and large group instruction classes as needed.
- Otherwise fulfill all duties and responsibilities as assigned and as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
- Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- (1) Master’s in rehabilitation counseling; or
- (2) Master’s in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling, or a bachelor’s degree in marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling with possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT).
