Location: Maryland Heights

Pattonville School District is seeking a passionate and dedicated Industrial Arts Teacher, to join our team. Position Summary

The Industrial Arts Teacher, under the general supervision of the school principal(s), develops students' technical knowledge, practical skills, and problem-solving abilities through hands‑on instruction in industrial arts and technology education. The teacher implements district‑approved curriculum; plans and delivers engaging, project‑based lessons; models safe and appropriate use of tools and equipment; and provides a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment. The Industrial Arts Teacher documents instruction and student progress, addresses individual student needs, and communicates effectively with students, parents/guardians, and administration regarding student performance, expectations, and growth.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Develops and administers industrial arts/technology education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom and laboratory environment that is safe, well‑organized, and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates them into hands‑on learning experiences that maximize instructional time.
  • Teaches knowledge and skills related to industrial arts, including but not limited to woodworking, metalworking, manufacturing processes, construction, design, drafting, and the safe use of tools and machinery.
  • Instructs and enforces proper safety procedures and practices for tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring compliance with district policies and safety regulations.
  • Designs and implements project‑based learning activities that develop problem‑solving, technical, and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and skill development, and modifies instructional methods to meet individual student needs.
  • Maintains and manages tools, equipment, inventory, and lab spaces to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Keeps accurate and complete records regarding grading, project completion, safety training, and attendance as required by district/building procedures and policies.
  • Encourages student responsibility, teamwork, and work habits consistent with industry standards and expectations.
  • Ensures that student behavior conforms to school and district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of conduct necessary for a productive and safe learning environment.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents/guardians.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members, participates in faculty meetings, committees, and required professional development.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge of current developments in industrial arts, technology, and education through professional development, workshops, and industry‑related learning.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors or masters degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Missouri Industrial Technology 5-9 certification.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and student success.
  • PLTW Certification in Design and Modeling and Automation and Robotics preferred and/or willingness to gain certification.
Additional Duties
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal(s).
