Position Description

The Chemical and Materials Engineering department in the School of Engineering anticipates hiring multiple Readers for the following courses for Academic Year 2025‑2026. All Readers will grade homework, quizzes, and exams as needed under the supervision of the instructor. The position requires up to a maximum erad 18 hours per week.

    Engineering Living Systems
  • MSE 113:
    Materials Characterization
  • MSE 118:
    Introduction to Nanotechnology and Nanoscience
  • MSE 152:
    Materials Processing & Performance II:
    Materials Selection
  • MSE 162: 3D Printing Research and Development
  • MSE 194:
    Capstone Design
  • CHE 165:
    Plastic Pollution
  • Other courses as needed

Readers will be represented by the UAW‑AFL‑CIO. Refer to Table 18 for the salary range.

Appointments for AY 2025‑2026 and/or Fall 2025 semester are reviewed around April, and for Spring 2026 semester around October. Applications will be reviewed on a continuous basis and this posting will remain open until

Qualifications

Basic qualifications:

  • Successfully completed the course or a related course appointed for the Reader with a grade of “B” or higher and be in good standing at the University with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Readers are usually graduate students; qualified undergraduate students may be employed when graduate students are not available.
  • Professional readers not enrolled as students may be employed on an hourly basis.

  • Unofficial Transcript: Unofficial transcript confirming that you have successfully completed and received a grade of “B” or higher in the course or related course you are requesting to be a Reader for, and are in good standing at the University with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.   • Authorization of Information Release: As a condition of employment, the finalist will be required to disclose if they are subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct, left a position during an investigation for alleged misconduct, or have filed an appeal with a previous employer. “Misconduct” means any violation of the policies or laws governing conduct at the applicant’s previous place of employment, including, but not limited to, violations of policies or laws prohibiting sexual harassment, sexual assault, or other forms of[assembly] harassment, discrimination, dishonesty, or unethical conduct.
