Overview
The Student Health Physician provides comprehensive, patient-centered medical care exclusively to University of California, Riverside (UCR) students through Student Health Services. The Physician delivers high-quality primary and urgent care services that integrate medical treatment, prevention, health education, and holistic health principles, supporting student success, continuity of care, and whole-person wellness.

The full salary range for the Student Health Physician is $152,157 - $390,471 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $275,000 annually. Salary offers are based on education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for staff.
As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.
Educational Requirements
- Degree:
Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) from an accredited medical school.
Experience Requirements
- Experience in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Demonstrated experience providing primary care and outpatient medical services in a clinical setting, including evaluation, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Experience delivering preventive health services and patient education, including health screenings, immunizations, and counseling related to wellness and risk reduction.
- Experience prescribing medications and managing treatment plans in accordance with evidence-based clinical guidelines.
- Experience making appropriate referrals and coordinating care for complex diagnostic, procedural, or specialty medical needs.
- Experience working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Experience in college health, student health, adolescent health, or young adult medicine, particularly within an outpatient or campus-based clinical setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional training or coursework in preventive medicine, women’s health, adolescent health, or holistic health approaches is highly desirable.
- Experience identifying and responding to mental health concerns in primary care settings, including screening, brief intervention, and referral.
- Experience practicing in diverse, multicultural, or underserved populations, with demonstrated commitment to health equity and culturally responsive care.
- Experience using Med AB (medical abortion) protocols, including patient counseling, clinical management, and follow-up care, consistent with training, licensure, and institutional policy.
- Experience providing women’s health services, including reproductive and preventive care, to a young adult population.
Minimum Requirements
- Knowledge of primary care and outpatient medical practice for adolescent and young adult populations, including preventive care and patient education.
- Knowledge of preventive medicine, health promotion, and patient education principles.
- Knowledge of California laws and regulations governing medical practice, prescribing, and patient confidentiality.
- Skill in clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, prescribing, and follow-up care in accordance with evidence-based standards and applicable laws.
- Ability to provide patient-centered, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care while maintaining professional ethics, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to work effectively independently and within an interdisciplinary healthcare team, including coverage that may extend beyond a standard 8-hour workday.
- Ability to document accurately and timely in an electronic health record.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, safely lift and move up to 40 pounds, and perform clinical duties requiring manual dexterity and adequate visual and auditory acuity.
