JOB TITLE: Culture Center Director
DEPARTMENT: Cultural Center Department
REPORTS TO: Tribal Administrator
SALARY RANGE: $21.00 - 23.69 DOE
STATUS: Permanent/Full-Time/Non-Exempt/30 Hours Week
Duties and Responsibilities- Knowledge of traditional, historical and cultural areas of Chemehuevi concern.
- Management of the daily operations of the Center.
- Knowledge of the National Historic Preservation Act [Section 106] & consultant with Tribal Chairman and THPO Director.
- Knowledge of the American Graves Protection Act (NAGPRA) concerns of the Tribe & consult with Tribal Chairman and THPO Director.
- Research Chemehuevi historical materials and artifacts.
- Create and present cultural orientation for new employee, contractors and new membership.
- Coordinate culturally appropriate classes/demonstrations for Tribal citizen participation i.e. sewing, language, beading, weaving and any other Chemehuevi traditional and or modern traditions.
- Make available all materials, documents and artifacts for Tribal citizen viewing and research.
- Work closely with Tribal elders to record and document oral Chemehuevi history.
- Work closely with Chemehuevi Tribal citizens and professional researchers.
- Coordinate and attend annual Winter and Spring Camp and any other cultural appropriate tribal events for the community.
- Promote culture appropriate awareness for tribal departments and community.
- Turn transcripts into historical text for the Chemehuevi community.
- Coordinate, display and maintain exhibits at the Center.
- Monthly written report to Tribal Council.
- Assist and support in annual Nuwuvi & Indian Days.
- Other duties assigned.
- Preferred bachelor’s degree in museum studies, cultural and or two (2) year experience in related fields.
- Experience in grant writing, administration and or management; budget preparation and community relations.
- Knowledge of archeological and ethnographic procedures.
- Knowledge of the preservation of museum artifacts, documents, and use of audio-visual equipment.
- Knowledge of security systems of physical facilities.
- Adhere to Drug-Free Workplace Policy.
- Pre-employment drug testing required.
- Valid Driver’s License and good driving record.
- Ability to travel when required.
- Background Check.
- Ability to work flexible schedule, evenings and some weekends.
