Position Overview
The Senior Technical Designer, Innovation & Collaboration will lead the technical development of complex, design-driven garments and exclusive partnerships. This role is responsible for overseeing fit, construction, and specifications, ensuring SKIMS’ signature quality and innovation are achieved in every product. The ideal candidate is a seasoned technical design professional with exceptional garment engineering knowledge, a strong eye for detail, and the ability to lead projects from concept through production.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all technical design efforts for Innovation & Collaboration collections, including highly complex or specialty garments.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of detailed tech packs, specs, construction details, and graded measurements.
- Manage fittings from initial prototype through final sample, providing expert technical guidance to achieve brand standards for fit and quality.
- Collaborate closely with Design, Innovation, and Product Development teams to problem-solve creative and technical challenges.
- Drive material, trim, and construction innovation to deliver premium product experiences.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to Technical Designers and Assistants, reviewing work for accuracy and consistency.
- Partner with domestic and international vendors to ensure precise communication and flawless sample execution.
- Establish and evolve best practices for technical design processes, pattern blocks, and fit standards.
- Lead technical development for collaboration timelines, ensuring all launch milestones are met.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies, sustainable practices, and production innovations to elevate product quality.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or a related field.
- 7+ years of technical design experience in apparel, with expertise in complex garment engineering and premium/luxury categories.
- Proven track record managing high-profile collaborations or innovation-driven design projects.
- Expert knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, grading, and fit.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, PLM systems, and Microsoft Office; 3D design software (CLO 3D or similar) strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills, with experience mentoring junior team members.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Passion for innovation, product excellence, and pushing technical boundaries.
