Honey bees help ensure the supply of diverse and affordable food such as fruits, vegetables, and nuts, through essential pollination services. Project Apis m. (PAm) is the go-to organization at the intersection of research, honey bees, and agriculture. Since 2006, we have funded over $13 million in honey bee research and $4.2 million in forage programs. Summary
The communications manager supports and promotes the PAm and BHC mission by working with our small, remote team of eight to ensure excellent communication both internally and externally with our staff, board of directors, grantors and funders, cause marketers, beekeepers, almond growers, habitat participants and other stakeholders. Under the direction of the development director, the communications manager will maintain outward-facing platforms including websites, newsletters, and social media.
They will provide data summaries and content for the annual report, newsletters, press releases, print materials, and presentations. Content creation may involve conducting interviews, and documentation of field-research, habitat participants, or events. Supporting the Advancing Markets for Producers grant through Blue Diamond Growers is a special focus for this position. This position works both independently and as part of a team, in a fast-paced, multitasking environment.
Professionalism, organization, comprehension and synthesis of information, and clear communication are paramount to this position.
- In collaboration with technical experts, create content and edit the technical copy quarterly for the Cover Crop Chronicle eNewsletter, and the Project Apis m. (PAm) eNewsletter, including conducting interviews and writing articles. Create and edit content for industry publications, and support staff-produced content through review.
- Support communications and outreach for Seeds for Bees (SFB) and the Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) Grant including staffing events, arranging advertising, producing printed and web materials and other promotions of the programs. Including participant surveys, applications, guides and specification materials.
- Work closely with habitat managers to produce SFB and AMP grant reports and other reporting materials as required.
- Summarize and publicize initiatives and outcomes of PAm’s and Bee Health Collectives (BHC) research and forage programs.
- Create, collect, manage, and distribute social media content and collaborate with other staff as needed. Monitor and respond to social comments and questions. Provide reports on social media and website engagement. Utilize social media ads as part of planned campaigns.
- Support the development director with coordination of industry conference attendance, tabling and presentations.
