We’re a San Diego-based design-build playground company expanding into full-scope park and site development projects. Our team is passionate about creating safe, engaging, and sustainable outdoor environments—from playgrounds and splash pads to complete park renovations. As we grow our capabilities in public and private park construction, we’re seeking a seasoned estimator who understands the San Diego construction market and can bring strong relationships with local trade partners to the table.
TheOpportunity
This is not your typical civil estimating role. We’re looking for someone who knows what it takes to build parks, plazas, and outdoor spaces—someone who can read a plan set and instantly picture how the trades come together. You’ll lead the estimating process for new park and site development projects, leveraging your understanding of local subcontractors and vendors to create accurate, competitive bids.
Key ResponsibilitiesEstimate & Bid Preparation: Develop detailed, itemized estimates and competitive bid proposals for park and site work—including grading, utilities, concrete, landscaping, playground installation, and site amenities.
Trade Partner
Collaboration:
Source and maintain relationships with local subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring accurate pricing and trusted partnerships across all scopes.Plan Review & Quantity Takeoffs: Perform detailed takeoffs and interpret drawings/specifications to confirm scope and identify opportunities for value engineering.
Cost Analysis: Research material pricing, labor productivity, and current market trends to ensure bids are both competitive and profitable.
Team
Collaboration:
Work closely with project managers, designers, and field teams to align estimating assumptions with real-world constructability.Risk & Scope Review: Identify potential risks, exclusions, and gray areas early in the bidding process to minimize surprises later.
Bid Strategy: Assist in defining bid strategy, scope packages, and alternate proposals to give the company a winning edge.
Experience: 8+ years of estimating experience in site development, park, landscape, or civil construction. Experience with playgrounds, recreational facilities, or outdoor environments is a strong plus.
Market Knowledge: Existing relationships with San Diego trade contractors (grading, concrete, utilities, landscape, surfacing, etc.) and a solid understanding of local pricing and permitting nuances.
Technical
Skills:
Proficiency with estimating tools such as Bluebeam, HCSS Heavy Bid, Plan Swift, or similar. Strong Excel and general computer skills are a must.Education: Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Mindset: Detail-oriented, collaborative, and entrepreneurial—you enjoy building systems and helping a growing company establish its estimating foundation.
Competitive base salary ($110,000–$150,000+ DOE)
