Salary Range: $17.00 - $19.00 hourly
Job SummaryThe Sports Camp Coordinator is responsible for the direction, safety and supervision of all counselors, campers, and camp activities. They will also participate in day-to-day planning, and organizing and implementing of all aspects of the camp. This is an at-will position. Other duties and responsibilities include:
Responsibilities- Gain knowledge and understanding of Park District policies and procedures and see that they are adhered to at all times.
- Attend district-wide part-time staff orientations, crisis trainings and office staff trainings as directed.
- Comply with the District’s Dress Code by coming to work in clean, presentable clothing and wearing an employee name tag.
- Direct and assist in keeping supplies and equipment safe and available by reporting breakage and safety problems.
- Assist in record keeping with sign-in/sign-out, Epact, taking attendance, collecting permission slips, keeping each child’s information sheet up to date, and filling out accident/incident reports as needed.
- Work with staff to develop weekly lesson plans to cover basic activities for camp. Give needed supply lists to the Recreation Supervisor to order at least three weeks prior to event.
- Arrange for substitute counselors when needed.
- Run and/or participate in staff trainings, staff meetings and communicate with staff.
- Accompany and supervise staff and campers on field trips and to the pool.
- Communicate with the Recreation Manager on a regular basis about problems, solutions, questions.
- Review staff performances throughout the summer and evaluate formally at the end of the season.
- Responsible for supervising Site Supervisors and Camp Counselors.
- Coordinate with NWSRA as needed.
- Observe and follow all Park District safety policies and regulations. The safety of staff and participants is a continuing responsibility of all employees.
- Monitor camp areas and equipment for any safety concerns. Promptly report anything outside your ability to fix or address.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
High School graduate or equivalent. Must be 21 years of age, with an understanding of camp procedures. Prior experience working with children required. Preference given to those with a degree in elementary education or related field or comparable experience. Must have current CPR and First Aid training or receive it prior to start date. Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License and be able to provide own transportation.
Schedule& Pay
This is a seasonal position that starts in May and runs through August. This position is expected to work between the hours of 8 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday - Friday, and will not exceed 40 hours a week. Anticipated hiring range is $17.00 - $19.00/hour PLUS applicable facility and program discounts.
