Strategic Business Development Manager - West Coast Sustainable Transportation Midwest - Travel $150k - 180k + Bonus
Brightsmith are working with a leading Transportation-Technology firm that is reshaping how cities and operators deliver transportation services. Their software and operational solutions enable digital, automated, and data-informed decision-making across entire transportation networks — spanning fixed-route transit, demand-responsive services, paratransit, student transportation, and emerging mobility modes. As a Strategic Business Development Principal, you will lead regional sales across both public and private sectors, partnering with cities and operators to deploy more inclusive, sustainable, and tech-enabled transportation solutions. You will own a revenue target and manage your market end-to-end: identifying opportunities, building executive relationships, and converting complex mobility initiatives into closed deals.
Responsibilities- Identify prospective partners in your territory and build durable, revenue-generating relationships with stakeholders ranging from elected officials to private-sector executives.
- Lead full-cycle sales strategy and execution across your region, driving initiatives that improve mobility outcomes for local communities.
- Navigate complex public- and private-sector procurement environments using strong research and analytical skills to build compelling, data-driven business cases.
- Act as a consultative thought partner to clients, helping shape regional mobility strategies and identify viable funding mechanisms.
- Represent the company as a market leader by speaking at industry events, leading local marketing initiatives, and providing ongoing thought leadership in the mobility and transportation technology space.
- 8+ years of client-facing experience with a strong track record in Sales, Business Development, Consulting, or a similar field
- A consultative seller who enjoys educating stakeholders and using data to craft persuasive narratives
- A strategic researcher who thrives in complex, evolving environments
- An intuitive communicator, equally strong in executive conversations, presentations, and written proposals
- Commercially astute with excellent judgment — you know when to push and when to adapt to maximise deal value
- A motivated self-starter with a growth mindset who performs well in fast-paced, high-responsibility roles
- A collaborative team player who contributes individually while mentoring and supporting colleagues
