Role:
Sr Director of Business Development
We are currently partnered with a growing (CDMO) based on the West Coast. The organization has a long track record of delivering integrated discovery, CMC development, and manufacturing solutions to pharmaceutical and biotechnology partners. It has built a strong reputation for advancing small molecule programs from early research through clinical development, CMC strategy and execution, and into commercial production.
Responsibilities- Develop and execute strategic business development plans aligned with overall company growth objectives
- Identify, prospect, and secure new pharmaceutical and biotech clients
- Drive revenue growth across pre-formulation, formulation development, tech transfer, clinical, and commercial manufacturing services
- Assess prospective client needs and align opportunities with company capabilities
- Lead tailored client presentations and capability discussions
- Respond to RFPs and proactively generate new opportunities
- Generate proposals, contracts, and service agreements in partnership with technical and operations teams
- Negotiate and close fee‑for‑service and long‑term manufacturing agreements
- Build and manage strategic client relationships to ensure sustained revenue growth
- Partner cross‑functionally with technical, project management, manufacturing, and operations teams
- Maintain accurate CRM documentation and commercial tracking
Represent the organization at industry events and conferences - Provide market and competitive intelligence to leadership
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutics, Life Sciences, or related discipline (advanced degree or MBA preferred)
- 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry
- 5+ years of business development and account management experience
- 5+ years of CMC experience
- Prior CDMO experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical development, testing, and manufacturing processes
- Demonstrated success negotiating and closing complex service agreements
- Strong client management and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple work streams and coordinate cross‑functional responses
- Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to operate effectively in a growth‑stage organization
