The Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) provides legal advice to California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) leadership to help ensure operations are conducted effectively and consistently with legal requirements. The Complex Litigation Administrative Support team assists the OLA Complex Litigation Unit attorney teams, which oversee and advise CDCR on all class action and complex litigation matters brought against the Department.

Under the direction of the Supervisor I, the Complex Litigation Coordinator performs a wide variety of administrative, technical, consultative, and analytical support on complex, sensitive, and critical Departmental issues concerning class action and complex litigation lawsuits. The Coordinator works with attorneys, internal CDCR divisions and offices, the Office of the Attorney General, external agencies, stakeholders, and the private sector on case issues, document production, and court orders related to, but not limited to, incarcerated person disability accommodations, health care, mental health, due process, and conditions of confinement.

The incumbent must acquire a working knowledge of Departmental activities, policies, procedures, projects, and assignments in progress and stay apprised of related changes. In addition, the Coordinator must manage workload under interruptions, re-prioritize tasks with same‑day or short deadlines, work well under pressure and competing deadlines, lead meetings, be proactive, and adapt smoothly to changing priorities. The Coordinator must be detail‑oriented, highly organized, and proactive in identifying and correcting potential discrepancies, ensuring all assignment tasks are completed with precision and on deadline.

The Office of Legal Affairs provides a secure access facility with complimentary parking and is situated in Sacramento, within the 95827 zip code. On occasion, travel may be necessary throughout the state to a CDCR institution, location, or court for appearances. Work days or travel may include any day of the week, and hours may include non‑standard business hours.

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework arrangement, based on employee performance and in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and Department policies. Employees must reside within 50 miles of the assigned office location upon appointment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Analyst II salary range: $6,031.00 – $7,547.00 per month (minimum salary for new‑to‑state candidates).
