The Contra Costa Clerk‑Recorder‑Elections Department is an elective office with three divisions:
Clerk‑Recorder, Elections, and Central Administration. The Department’s office is located in Martinez, the county seat of Contra Costa. Elections Services Technicians support activities associated with the preparation for, and the conduct of elections. Technicians may provide lead direction to Elections Temporary Assignment staff within their work units. If you have previous experience in the planning, preparation, and processing of elections, you are highly encouraged to apply.

The department is recruiting to fill two (2) Elections Services Technician positions that may work in the following work units:
Voter Services, In‑Person Voting, and Voting Systems.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Interested in elections administration. You will need to demonstrate your understanding of the election process and timelines.
As an Elections Services Technician with the Voter Services unit, you will:
  • Conduct daily processing of voter information in database systems.
  • Lead and coordinate vote‑by‑mail functions including processing voter requests for ballots, signature verification, and extraction of returned ballots.
  • Review and process examinations of petitions and conduct signature verification of petitions.
  • Oversee the review of voter eligibility and assist in processing provisional ballots.
  • Coordinate and provide phone, in‑person, and email customer services.
As an Elections Services Technician with the In‑Person Voting unit, you will:
  • Assist in the planning related to in‑person voting, including supplies, staffing, and procedures.
  • Assist in the recruitment, assignment, and management of poll workers and other stipend election volunteers.
  • Assist in or lead the research or creation of polling place supplies.
  • Train poll workers and/or other stipend volunteers on the procedures of their assigned job and answer their questions.
  • Assist in or lead the planning and organizing training classes, materials, and resources to ensure a structured and coherent learning experience.
  • Oversee and communicate with poll workers and other election volunteers via phone, email, and in person including drafting communications and replying to questions.
  • Maintain poll worker and volunteer records in an online database.
  • Assist in processing election volunteer payroll.
  • Assist in all canvass activities as needed.
As an Elections Services Technician with the Voting Systems unit, you will:
  • Assist in or lead voting equipment upgrades, maintenance, and testing activities.
  • Assist in ballot layout, design, and proofing processes.
  • Assist in the tabulation and adjudication of voted ballots.
  • Maintain, update, and organize election information in ballot layout databases.
