POSITION OVERVIEWThe Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is seeking qualified candidates to fill the emergency Intermediate Typist Clerk vacancy related to the DOJ Consent Decree. Under the emergency order, applicants may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, after which a permanent County employment opportunity may be offered based on performance. This position involves skilled typing and specialized clerical work to support jail and community services.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Provide clerical support to onsite managers, supervisors, and units.
- Input and track schedules, data, and provider compliance deadlines.
- Assist in clinic scheduling coordination and supply tracking, inventory, ordering, and record‑keeping.
- Support employee onboarding and off‑boarding processes.
- Check voicemail facsimiles and receive delivery shipments.
- Maintain SharePoint, Access, and Excel databases.
- Process documents according to predetermined procedures for recording and indexing.
- Take meeting notes and generate summaries.
- Search records/files for abstract material as assigned.
- Check documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with legal requirements.
- Maintain clerical controls and departmental records.
- Use office equipment such as video display terminals, word processors, or personal computers to input data, perform computations, or produce documents.
- Type documents and gather information to produce reports requiring accuracy or independent judgment.
- Scan, maintain, and record confidential documents/files.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 6 months office clerical experience involving typewriting in the County service,
* or* - Minimum of 1 year office clerical experience involving typewriting outside the County service,
* or* - A certificate or Associate of Arts degree in clerical procedures or office administration from an accredited college.
- Must meet one of the above requirements to be appointed to fill this vacancy.
- Typewriting skill:
Ability to type at a rate of 40 net words per minute. - Valid California Class "C" Driver's License or alternative transportation method for essential functions.
During the initial 90‑day work period, applicants will be evaluated on performance with a 100% weighted assessment. Those who pass will be considered for permanent appointment to Intermediate Typist Clerk.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTClass II – Light:
Light administrative and clerical duties that may include occasional light lifting to a 10‑pound limit and bending, stooping, or squatting.
