Position and Emergency Hiring DetailsThe Department of Mental Health is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Staff Assistant II vacancies related to the homelessness crisis. Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment. Before the end of the initial period, you will be assessed on your work performance (weighted 100%).
Those who pass the assessment may be considered for permanent appointment to Staff Assistant II.
- Prepares justification for division or bureau salaries and employee benefits, fixed assets, services and supplies budgets.
- Analyzes and makes recommendations on organizational problems or work procedures; may participate in implementation of changes from studies.
- Participates in the divisional or bureau personnel program by assisting the director in recruitment, selection, and placement of qualified employees; provides interpretation, advice and guidance to line managers on personnel administration.
- Collects and analyzes data; makes recommendations on the purchase, replacement, renting, operation and repair of motor vehicles and construction equipment.
- Collects and researches data for equipment and writes equipment specifications.
- Supervises a small clerical staff in the preparation and maintenance of administrative reports and records, as needed.
TRAINING AND
EXPERIENCE:
- Two years experience in a general administrative staff or specialized staff capacity analyzing and making recommendations for the solution of problems of organization, systems and procedure, program, facility planning, budget or personnel
- OR
- One year experience as an Administrative Assistant I or Staff Assistant I
You MUST meet the above requirement(s) at the time of filing in order to be appointed to fill any vacancies related to this recruitment.
No Out-of-Class experience will be accepted. Applicants must have all required experience at time of filing.
Physical ClassPhysical Class II – Light:
This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment. Those who pass the assessment may be considered for permanent appointment.
