Responsibilities
  • Types and edit a variety of material which may contain technical or specialized terminology; review documents for accuracy and completeness; serve as a receptionist or information clerk; determine purpose of contact; provide general information and assist in preparation of forms; direct individuals to proper destination; receive and distribute messages; and schedule and/or arrange appointments.
  • Compose routine correspondence; proofread and/or finalize letters, memorandums, reports or other documents for approval and signature.
  • Establish and maintain filing systems; prepare records for storage and/or archiving; maintain office equipment and supply inventory; maintain records relating to receipt and issuance of materials or equipment.
  • Prepare agency documents such as purchase and supply requisitions, personnel and/or payroll forms, time and leave records, and expense accounts; perform calculations in the completion of forms and records; assist with the arrangement of travel and accommodations, and in the coordination of meeting logistics.
  • Process and distribute mail according to established procedures; prepare material for mailing, utilizing automated equipment when applicable; perform data entry and develop routine spreadsheets and databases; compile and prepare data or reports from a variety of sources in accordance with specific instructions or procedures; operate and maintain standard office equipment.
  • Serve as a lead worker, providing guidance, direction, and training to other clerical employees; review work for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with instructions and procedures.
  • Receive general supervision from a designated administrative supervisor; carry out assigned responsibilities independently within established guidelines; perform other related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Six or more months of experience in office support work; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency. Fifteen earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for the required experience.

Stipends and Pay
  • A $2.00 per hour shift differential if assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00 pm (noon) and 5:00 am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
  • A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend if you work full‑time at a qualifying facility.
  • A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if you are assigned a regular post within a restricted housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years.
