Overview

Under general supervision of the Accounting Administrator I, the Accounting Officer (Specialist) performs professional accounting duties of average difficulty, reviewing and analyzing local assistance projects, ensuring safeguarding of assets and compliance with fiscal and accounting policies.

Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze local assistance projects.
  • Ensure safeguarding of assets.
  • Maintain compliance with fiscal and accounting policies.
  • Provide accurate financial information and reporting.
  • Assist in preparing budgets and financial statements.
  • Collaborate with project managers to resolve accounting issues.
Minimum Requirements
  • Valid California driver’s license if operating a State owned or leased vehicle.
  • Resume and unofficial transcripts or degree verification required.
  • Score on the Accounting Officer (Specialist) or Accountant Trainee exams.
  • Eligibility for civil service through the state examination list.
  • Evidence of educational qualifications as specified in the classification specification.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience in accounts payable operations.
  • Ability to analyze, identify, and implement process improvements.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and time‑management skills.
  • Independent judgment and initiative.
Working Conditions

Location:

1820 Alhambra Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95816.

Work in a climate‑controlled office with artificial light. Hours vary between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., overtime may be required during peak periods and fiscal year‑end closing. Occasional in‑state travel and business travel may be required. Telework possible at department discretion.
