Under minimal direction, individuals within the Accountant II series can expect to perform technical and complex accounting duties related to the preparation of financial statements, review of fiscal records, and monitoring of financial transactions in accordance with accounting procedures.
Ideal CandidateWestern Water is looking for a seasoned accountant with strong interpersonal skills to support day‑to‑day financial and accounting operations and provide strategic guidance. This includes the following:

- In‑depth knowledge and experience in financial and accounting processes that support a special district providing reliable water and sewer services to retail and wholesale customers throughout western Riverside County.

- Maintain general ledger; review accounting documents for accuracy and calculations; make correcting entries when needed; examine supporting documentation to establish proper authorization and conformance with Western Water policies, agreements, contracts and state and federal requirements; perform periodic reconciliation of general ledger accounts and subsidiary ledgers.
- Perform a variety of technical accounting work in the maintenance of various accounting records and resolve discrepancies; summarize, prepare and enter journal entries to prepare financial reports and records.
- Meet with Western Water staff to review budgets versus actual performance, research and identify variances and assist in the preparation of routine financial performance reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis.
- Assist in the preparation of annual financial reports such as preparing and compiling data for Western Water's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
- Review, reconcile, and prepare annual audit spreadsheets, reports and journal entries to coordinate, participate, and prepare requested financial data for year‑end audits.
- Adhere to office procedures including record‑management policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with the Western record‑retention policy.
