Assists Physician and Nurse with basic patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice under direct supervision of the Nurse Manager. Maintains environment that is prepared for patient care.

The professional duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. The duties will be performed in accordance to policy and procedure, standard of care and in accordance of state certification

• Directs and coordinates activites of radiology and laboratory in their facility.
• Reviews and assigns a radiology work schedule.
• Assigns duties to clinical staff as well as performs proficiency testing (API) in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendements (CLIA) regulations.
• Demonstrates new techniques, equipment and procedures to staff for radiology and laboratory.
• Assist with troubleshooting equipment issues in radiology and laboratory
• Assumes responsibility for and takes action regarding any QC or QA issues as it pertains to specific job duties.
• Maintains lab instruments and equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
• Serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
• Patient communication and preparation including removal of garments and jewelry that may interfere with procedures and explaining how the process works.
• Prepares patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient; adjusting immobilization devices; moving equipment into specified position; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
• Setting equipment to obtain the best density, detail and contrast of the area being imaged
• Perform basic verification and quality control checks on radiographic and film processing equipment.
• Apply radiation protective measures and appropriate care for the patient during the examination.
• Properly operate x-ray and radiographic equipment to produce radiographic images of the human body for diagnosis by a radiologist.
• Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques
• Maintains radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
• Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of treatment; answering questions.
• Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors.
• Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; following drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs, such as contrast media, administering first aid, and using the emergency cart.
• Maintains production and quality of radiographs by following established standards and procedures; developing radiographs; observing radiographic results; making necessary adjustments.
• Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

• Perform initial vital signs and recheck as necessary.
