• Act as liaison to 3rd party billers and other organizations
• Translate information into alphanumeric medical codes
• Prepare and mail billing statements
• Submit claims to insurance companies and other third-party payers
• Process payments from insurance companies
• Post transactions and reconcile payments to patient ledgers
• Collect and manage patient account payments
• Identify past-due bills and recommend collection actions
• Ensure the facility is reimbursed for all services provided
• Resolve conflicts regarding payments and reimbursements
• Write reports and provide information to government agencies
• Respond in writing and on the telephone to patients’ questions about billing
• Investigate and report instances of insurance fraud
• Provide information and prepare documents for legal inquiries and litigation
• Enter patient information into computer files and paper records
• Organize, manage, and sort paperwork (including patients’ charts)
• Ensure the confidentiality of patients’ personal information
• Other duties as assigned

A high school diploma and two years’ experience in clerical, bookkeeping, or similar position. Prior experience in a medical or health care office environment is preferable.

• Medical billing and coding
• Computer skills including MS Office, Web, Electronic Medical Records
• Familiar with HIPAA
• Written and verbal communication skills

Stepping Stones Behavioral Health Services, Inc. is a 501(c)3, state-approved Substance Use Disorder Facility providing outpatient and intensive outpatient addiction treatment services to Missoula County. We have licensed addiction and mental health counselors and certified behavioral health peer support specialists on staff. We are credentialed with most insurance companies.
