PRIMARYRESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for a mix of Dental Assisting (2 days per week avg.) and Administrative Assisting tasks (2 days per week avg.). Responsible for administrative review of patient charts, processing of patients through all varieties of patient care and treatment as well as care coordination. Position requires strong dental expertise including clinical treatment skills, chart review skills, communication skills, and intricate understanding of standard procedures.
SPECIFICDUTIES
- Greet new patients and review and update health histories.
- Set up treatment and consultation rooms for patient care and family communications respectively.
- Attend to all varieties of patient care and anticipate and assist dentists though all types of care.
- For example: take radiographs, mix dental materials, provide patient education, record notes in patient charts.
- Maintain professional spaces including organizing patient and staff education materials, assist with organization of clinical and office materials, report larger maintenance issues to practice manager.
- Send copy of patient record for consultation with specialist.
- Securely store and handle patient records in compliance with legal requirements, including HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
- Present treatment plans to patients. Ensure all patient questions are answered.
- Confirm upcoming appointments.
- Schedule patients for efficient use of doctor and staff time, and monitor patient flow.
- Check patient back-up list to try to fill in cancellation and no-show appointment times.
- Keep patient insurance information up-to-date.
- Check on insurance verification.
- Collect payment from patients at time of treatment.
- Track cases and referrals to and from other doctors.
- Call patients after a difficult treatment visit or OR visit.
- Perform variety of administrative tasks as assigned by business manager and practice manager.
- Be an active participant in team meetings, office management, clinical upkeep, and sterilization.
- High school diploma or equivalent, additional degrees recognized and rewarded.
- 4 years work experience in dentistry.
- Computer skills with dental software.
- Compliance with state dental practice requirements (Radiology certification, OSHA training).
- Good interpersonal and verbal skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentists, other staff members and community.
