Coast Connect is looking for a full‑time Fiber Technician to work in the Harrison, Hancock, and Pearl River County areas. In this position, the Fiber Technician will play a lead role in residential and commercial fiber optic installations of internet and VoIP service, troubleshooting and helping to resolve all service‑related issues.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIESThe Fiber Technician will complete fiber optic installations for residential/business customers including splicing and installation of fiber drop connections both outside and inside of premises. The incumbent will analyze and troubleshoot basic technical problems or issues (e.g., no light level on ONT, no WI‑FI signal, latency issues); review, interpret, and work with various maps, drawings and blueprints and testing documents and install equipment including but not limited to ONT (modem), router (gateway), extenders (mesh units) and telephone (wiring, phone, etc.).
The Fiber Technician will program subscribers premise equipment including but not limited to wireless networks, support app (My Coast Connect ), telephone, and data networks. The incumbent will educate subscribers and potential subscribers on Coast Connect products and services; operate fiber optic test equipment for troubleshooting and diagnostic malfunctions in the hut and outside the plant during normal work hours as well as after hours to maintain high quality connectivity.
The incumbent will coordinate with Network Operations Center (NOC) and Coast Connect Fiber Services personnel to validate service restoration and/or service installation. The incumbent will perform daily tests, checks and maintenance of splicing and testing equipment, and perform optical continuity and conformance testing and complete routine preventive maintenance.
- High school diploma, GED, related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Must possess a valid Mississippi driver's license.
- Must be able to work from heights of 28 feet or greater (by ladder or bucket truck) for extended periods of time.
- Must have the ability to use computers and computer systems to set up functions, enter data, or process information.
- Must have the ability to learn fusion and mechanical splicing and selecting and constructing the correct splice enclosure.
- Must have the ability to learn and apply the rules and regulations of various regulatory bodies impacting the operation of a telecommunications system including, but not limited to, FCC, NEC, NESC, and OSHA, as well as local and state ordinances, codes, and regulations.
- Must be able to work during regular business hours or when on‑call.
- Must be available to work overtime including weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
- Must be able to see things at a close distance (within a few feet).
- Must have the ability to apply practical applications of fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion, and geometric construction.
- Must be able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Must have good judgment and decision‑making skills.
- Must have the ability to recognize potential service issues (e.g., dead tap, light levels of specification, etc.).
- Must be able to listen and give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times (e.g., listening to a customer, etc.).
- Must have the ability to read manuals, maps and the like and ability to prepare summaries and reports.
- Must be able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
