The Perkinston Campus Police Officer will report directly to the Chief of Campus Police. The successful candidate will ensure the safety of the campus community by maintaining law and order on campus and enforcing the College rules and regulations and Laws of the State of Mississippi. The officer will investigate campus incidents such as larcenies, vandalism, disturbances, as well as respond to all campus emergencies.
Job Duties SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
All officers will answer directly to the Chief of Police.Must be available to work all shifts and weekends. This includes sporting events and any other event college wide.Arrive on time for duty and be well groomed, clean, and neat in uniform.All officers will be armed and applicant must qualify with his or her duty weapon.Officer must attend all training and meetings as prescribed by the Chief of Police.Officers will detect acts of violence within the scope of the college.Officers will be required to patrol the corridors and in the parking lot, and issue citations for parking violators.Officers will when needed, escort Faculty and Students.Officers will be required to report any hazards to the MGCCC Maintenance Department.Officers must be able to type written reports in the college data base and be able to complete the report by the end of his or her shift.Officers are required to complete a daily log.Must be able to walk long distances and perform light lifting.Officers must be able to handle themselves in a professional manner when dealing with Students or the Public.Officers will unlock and lock the campus on a daily basis, and may be called to unlock offices for Faculty and for events.Officers must be able to work independently or as a member of a team.Ensure safety of campus community by enforcing campus rules and regulations, using appropriate procedures.Prepare all necessary evidence for Campus Judicial hearings and/or criminal court, when requested.Investigate campus incidents.Inform appropriate administrators of major campus incidents daily or as needed.Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Campus Police and Dean of Business Services.AUXILIARY DUTIES
Issue parking tags to studentsCooperate with and assist the maintenance department.Pick-up and deliver campus mail and bank deposits, as needed.Maintain a good working relationship with other law enforcement and emergency response agencies.Mandatory Qualifications
M(1) Hold a current Professional Certificate awarded by the Board on Law Enforcement Standards and Training of the State of Mississippi, (qualified Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer under the Provisions of Chapter 474 General Laws of Mississippi, 1981).M(2) Ability to perform physically active duties (walking the campus, directing traffic, lifting at least 20 pounds).M(3) Exceptional communication and customer service skills.M(4) Demonstrate experience in the use of computers and related software; proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Outlook.M(5) Pass a background Investigation.Desirable Qualifications
D(1) Three years of law enforcement experience.D(2) Certified in First Aid, CPR , AED , hazardous material, NIMS , and/or other emergency response training.D(3) Experience as an officer in a community college or educational setting.D(4) Associates of Science Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.D(5) Documented Investigative training and experience.EEO Statement
